1940s Early ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONIST OIL PAINTING Mid Century Modern Signed. This is a major modernist work from one of the most influential early modern art collections in the United States. Early Modernist oil on canvas from the renowned Rabin and Kruger Gallery. Exemplary jazz influenced abstract expressionist painting with dynamic high key color patterns and an iridescent wax-like surface.

Oil painting on stretched canvas. Canvas is nailed to stretcher. Signed at lower left - Welsh (Owen Welsh). Original Rabin and Krueger Gallery tag on back, along with artist information.

Wooden inserts between stretcher bars and canvas, giving the surface of the painting a slightly 3-dimensional quality. In original hand-carved wormy Chestnut frame.

Reminiscent of Joseph Stella and Stuart Davis. Very large scale - Measures: 42.75"x 34.75" in frame.
