Antique 19th Century LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTING 32x24 SIGNED Impressionist VINTAGE
EarthHunt Lot #A1391 This is an AUTHENTIC 19. It is a RIVER LANDCAPE BY AN UNKNOWN ARTIST. It is signed but we have not been able to trace this signature. It is a large original oil painting that originally was in a huge ornate wooden frame. The painting is a dark landscape in the style of the French Barbizon School.
It is a large, original, and quite old oil painting on canvas in the manner of Jean Baptiste Corot. It measures a substantial 32 high x 24 wide mounted as shown with. 375 to 3.25 of extra canvas on all sides beyond the forward display. The dark dusk or dawn skies and grey, green and beige scenery is consistent throughout confirming this is the original tone of the piece. Certainly a touch of paint oxidation and 100+ years of age have supported this, but we see no damage, stains or other flaws to the painting.There is only a slight impression line on the left edge from the previous frame pressing onto it and a few tiny chips to the paint on the extreme corner edges where it was covered by frame wood for a century or more. We removed it from the large and fairly damaged old frame for safe storage a few decades ago, and have expertly stored the painting as shown in our archival map cabinet drawers since then.
The RIVER LANDSCAPE PAINTING is uniformly mounted on a wood backing frame as shown. As it is copper stapled in place, this mounting probably dates to the 1960s or so.
