Bold brushwork, a nice impasto and masterfully juxtaposed colors are just a few of this vintage oil painting's qualities! The combination of these qualities fills the canvas with a lively sense of energy that you would expect and hope to see in a painting by famous listed American artist- Leroy Neiman!!! Leroy Neiman is a popular American artist. His work is in many permanent art collections, including the Baltimore Museum of Art; Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and the Art Institute of Chicago.I believe this painting was done by Neiman because I have seen many of his other original oil paintings that have similar brushwork, impasto, color palette, subject matter and compositions that possess a similar, powerful energy! Possibly even earlier or later. The signature has been tested under an ultraviolet light and it is original to the painting! The natural oxidation on the back of the canvas is consistent with other paintings that I have seen done around 1981. There are also documented Neiman canvasses that are the same size as this one. There is nothing wrong with it. I believe this was the case with this painting, as they chose to evaluate it as being done "in the manner of" Neiman, as this painting probably came from an estate and didn't have paperwork from more than 35 years ago with it. As you know, not may people have paperwork from 35 years ago! I believe if you weigh the evidence...
