Finely painted Regency miniature of a young handsome midshipman in naval uniform, set before the sea with rocks behind one shoulder. It is painted in watercolour on natural wafer by the talented artist W S Lethbridge around C1810. It is signed on the reverse backing card;'W S Lethbridge pinxit, No 46 Strand, London. It is set within its original papier mache frame with convex protective glass, brass surround and decorative brass floral hanger.

The frame measures 5 5/8" x 4 7/8". The condition is very good with no warping, cracks or damage to the wafer and the artwork is in good order. The miniature still has its goldbeater's skin attaching it to the convex glass to stop any dust or insects getting in. The frame has a few knocks on the bottom edge and corners of the frame and a few stains at the top which would benefit from a clean.
