Early Vintage ABSTRACT NONOBJECTIVE OIL PAINTING MID CENTURY MODERN Signed. Early post war, abstract expressionist oil painting on linen. Heavy, chunky impasto throughout entire work. Stunning color variations from lemon yellow to deep cobalt. Lyrical multi-faceted brushstrokes create dynamic fluctuating movement.Very luminous pigments, heavily applied. This is an outstanding very early example of Abstract Expressionist painting. Dated 1949 on stretcher, painting likely older by the very dry state of pigment. Signed at front bottom right (unable to decipher signature), from New York School. Also signed on back of canvas. Title is on back of stretcher "Avenue of 5". Oil painting on linen, which is nailed to stretcher. Overall craquelure spiderweb effect to paint.
A few small chips at edges of painting, paint is stable. One professional repair to canvas at upper left in yellow (noticeable from back - please see last photo) appears that threads were realigned. Period floating style frame is water gilded with black sides and finished corners. Stretcher nails are visible from edges (see photos).
Frame has rubbing and scratches, but overall very good condition for it's age. Please see all photos and feel free to ask any questions. Large scale - Measures 38.75" high x 28.25" wide in frame.
