If you have ever been to the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Whitney Museum of American Art; Museum of Modern Art in New York City or the National Collection of Fine Art in Washington, you may have seen some of Robert Gordy's other paintings. He eventually became one of New Orleanss most famous & influential artists. Gordy painted this large painting in 1970.

This is a great example of his ability to create linear shapes in a flat pictorial space, in closely-keyed colors. By doing so, this composition not only pays homage to one of America's most famous brands of cola- Pepsi, but also allows us insight into his marvelous imagination! If you are unfamiliar with the author of this painting- Robert Gordy, I would like to share a part of his biography from rogallery with you below. The painting has some surface dirt, areas of stable crazing, stretcher marks and a 2 long scratch on the left, center edge of the painting. Otherwise, the painting is in good, overall condition. Please enlarge the digital images to see the extent of the damage.

When examining the painting under an ultraviolet light, I did find evidence of a small amount of inpainting, which accounts for about 5% of the painting's total surface area. The signature is original to the painting and it did not fluoresce under an ultraviolet light. I try to provide the best customer service possible. Due to the quality of the art, I do not risk damaging paintings by taking them off of their stretcher (or liner) and rolling them up, as these are not new paintings. We can use other carriers upon request. Thank you and I hope you have a "purrific" time viewing my auctions!
