It features a passel or gathering of nuns from the order Sister's of Charity which was founded by St. Vincent de Paul in 1633. They wear the familiar cornette hats and stand in a circle, with two young sisters peeking out, wide eyed, while appearing to get a reprimand from the elder sisters.
It is signed Cotta, with an L. Cotta written on the back canvas stretcher. To be done in oils (but acrylic is possible) and is estimated to be from the 1970's. Nothing is known about the artist though at one time the painting had a tag on the back stating the artist had won first place, but any other details are unknown and the tag has since been lost. The painting is framed in a beautiful deep depth wood frame that has a light whitewashing and has a narrow linen mat.
The painting and frame are in very good condition with a few smudges on the upper right of the painting (see photo) and some dirt on a few "peaks", and the linen mat has the typical gold spotting that comes with age (see photo). The painted canvas size is 16" X 20" and the framed size is 22.5" X 27". The item "Original vintage oil painting. Cotta" is in sale since Wednesday, January 24, 2018.
