Its an unusual depiction of a wheat grain elevator on a rivers edge and the road and landscape leading to it. The painting is 16 x 20 oil on canvas and retains its original painted frame.
On the back there are bare remnants of an exhibition label and a sticker with likely an exhibition number. Inscribed in pencil is Landscape Comp 1940. Also written is Exhibited in 1941 Annual.Maybe this was an art exhibition at a State Fair? While on the folk art side, it is an accurate depiction of the immediate land along the river and a seemingly important stop for commerce. To me, it has a Charles Burchfield spirit to it and a little Grant Wood as well. The condition is very good with no tears, missing paint or repairs. There is no craquelure and the paint very stable. The frame paint is a bit chippy in places but the frame solid and as originally painted to enhance the painting. The item "Vintage American Landscape Oil Painting Mid West.
