1950s ABSTRACT MODERNIST OIL PAINTING Vintage Mid Century Modern Sculptural Colorist Signed. Extremely beautiful modernist oil painting utilizing cubist techniques of breaking down the picture plane into a series of simplified shapes. This painting has a jewel-like faceted quality conveyed through the use of graphically depicted sources of light and shade. An African style sculpture is featured within this composition physically linking this work to to the very origins modernism.

Heavily composed with thick pigment and concise use of both palette knife and brush. Signed on front at lower left - Shapiro. Artist name and address on back. Oil painting on stretched linen. Original speckled Chestnut frame with linen border and antiqued-white fillet.
