Vintage Americana Folk Art Girl In Red Dress Dog & Cat After Ammi Phillips $1.7m
Fell in love with this painting more than 20 years ago in an antiques shop, long before I knew anything about folk art or ever heard of AMMI PHILLIPS. When we moved shortly thereafter, the newspaper article attached to verso detached and we never saw it again so dont remember what all it said because that was 15 years ago. In the interim, saw the famed Girl in a Red Dress with Dog, considered a folk art masterpiece, and came to appreciate this work even more.
This girl, wearing a red necklace with her dress, is somewhat more adorable than the Phillips girl, and in this work you also get the cat she cradles. I just noticed it is not perfect but is very good.
Hard to say the exact size of canvas but it seems to be approximately 19 x 16 while the beautiful frame is approximately 29 x 24. Evidently folk art is a passion of Millennials.
