Master Patrick RATHONIE creates another beautiful waterfront setting in the French countryside. This charming painting depicts a tree in flower in the foreground and a little village in the background. The certificate at the back of this painting specifies that this enamel on copper required a burning-process at 850° C (more than 1 560° Farenheit). Between 8 and 20 cookings were necessary to make this hand painting. Excellent condition with no damage, loss or restoration to the enamel.

This is a beautiful French landscape that will be a pleasure to own and display. Highly Collectable enamel over convex copper, this piece will continue to grow in value. Enamels on copper or enamels on porcelain we present are authentic works of art. They arent Helca curve plaque reproductions or screen paintings.

Enamels are handmade paintings made by French artists living and working in France in respect of the Limoges tradition. Each painting is unique and signed by the artist.

Few words about the enameling process. Enameling is glass fused to metal at high heat. The piece is fired at about 1450 degrees F for several minutes and removed from the hot kiln. The enameling process is specific: the enamelist must have a good knowledge of the colors and the effect of heat on them, as some of them change with the firing. An individual enameled copper tile will have been fired six to ten or more times.

Metals may be worked - etched, chased, formed, etc. Before any enamel is applied. Enameling is characterized by brilliant, non-fading colors, tremendous durability, variety of color effects depending on angle of light, and tremendous versatility. The medium of enameling goes back two thousand years and forms part of the artistic heritage on six continents. Limoges, France, is a famous center of vitreous enamel production.
