Vintage Impressionistic Oil Painting Adirondacks School River Scenario
This is an incredibly bold impressionistic oil on artist masonite board depicting a late fall Adirondacks School foliage scene where the viewer sees a deep forest stream flowing towards him - the stream flows alongside & between some gigantic boulders which have been created using a palette of multiple variations of gray, blue & white - the boulders at the center of this painting are in the sun & therefore have a bright gray-white composition; whereas the boulders in the lower left of the picture are in the shadows of the late afternoon & were created by the artist using a charcoal gray-black color to depict the shadows on the boulders. The various colors of the boulders are juxtaposed against the bold & bright oranges & dark reds of the forest trees behind & above the boulders & stream - by using this method, the artist has created a sense of distance & depth to the overall image making the painting seem larger than it actually is - the creation of the stream shows the very capable talent of the artist whereby he used a palette of subdued blue colors to show the reflection of the boulders in the sun on the stream as well as using muted oranges to show the reflection on the stream of the orange colored foliage of the trees above the stream. The painting itself is in very good vintage condition & measures a very generous 24" x 30" sight size - it is a very strong & impactful Adirondack School image with all of its diverse yet well-blended array of colors which is best seen at a distance of 10 feet or more to gain the proper perspective that the artist originally intended - it would also be best shown in a room with lots of light, or, with a single light set above the painting to truly see the talented juxtaposition of colors - the original gild-lined wooden frame greatly enhances the overall deep-woods bold aura of this painting & measures 28" x 35" - the frame is in very good vintage condition.
