Vintage Oil Seascape Painting Original Ornate Gold Frame Signed
This is a beautiful signed vintage oil seascape painting with seagulls. It is in its original ornate gold frame. I would estimate it dates circa 1930s or 1940s. The overall frame measures 30 5/8 inches x 38 5/8 inches (78 cm x 98 cm). The back opening size of the frame and the canvas size measure 23 1/2 inches x 31 1/2 inches (60 cm x 80 cm).
The frame molding width measures 4 inches (10 cm). This seascape was painted by Franz Waldegg (18881966), an Austrian artist. It's a very realistic painting of the sea, along with seagulls. The frame has issues with its finish, in that approximately 15 to 20% of it has worn off the background part.
If you're standing a little ways back though, it tends to blend in with the piece. The painting itself is in very good condition. There are two paper labels on the back that read. WALDEGG: This artist has come to the front?? His paintings as a master of incomparable ability to portray land and water as it appears to a true artist.His pictures are beautiful compositions. Expression is the moods of the sea, as his colors vibrate softly. There is a hanging tag that says Registry No. The framer is HUDSON'S in Detroit. The frame is perfect for the painting and together they have wonderful presence.
