Vintage Signed Framed Painting CA Listed FH Cutting Silicon Valley Landscape
Artist: Francis Harvey Cutting, Iowa, California (1872 - 1964). Framed impressionist oil on canvas California Landscape near Silicon Valley. Signed and Dated in the lower left hand corner F H Cutting, 1952. Framed Size: approximately 16.75"h x 20.75"w. Image size: 11.75"h x 15.5".
Condition: The painting is in very nice condition. The frame has a few scratches (shown in pic), which are not distracting since the frame is finished in a rather impressionist coloration also.
The painting is loose in the frame and needs to be shimmed in/at the bottom of the frame to prevent open space between the top of the painting and the top horizontal part of the frame. Francis Harvey Cutting was born on a farm near Riceville, Iowa in 1872. He moved to California in 1893 and settled in Campbell. After he graduated from San Jose State College, he taught school for a short while near Paso Robles but soon opted for an art career. In the 1920s he had an art studio in Pacific Grove where he studied with William Adam, Arthur Hill Gilbert, Charles Harmon, and Frank Pebbles.In 1927 Cutting moved to Campbell (just west of San Jose, CA) and remained there, in what is now a part of Silicon Valley, painting until his death in 1964.
