Vintage Signed Western Native American Indian Oil Painting Brush Fire Backfiring. I have tried my hardest to decipher the signature along the bottom edge of this vintage oil painting, with no luck! The last name ends in "twein" but I cannot make out the other letters. Executed in 1958, this mid-century Oil Painting on stretched canvas measures 19" long by 14" wide and comes in the original 29 1/2" by 23 3/4" artist's frame. The plaque on the bottom of this frame titles the painting Back Firing.

This unique painting depicts a group of Native American Indians lighting a back-fire to stop the on-coming brush fire, which you can just see in the lower left-hand corner. The artist has painted the Indians and their horses in warm tones, as they are being illuminated by the oncoming flames.
