Vintage Watercolor Painting Of St Augustine Fl Fort Marion Signed Walter Cole
You are looking at a watercolor painting by artist Walter Cole who wa a member of the St Augustine Lost Colony Artists in St Augustine fl. HE wa s a commercial artist , instructor and portrait and landscape painter. HE studied at the art students league in New York with Walt Kuhn and during WWII designed Liberty Loan Posters and a series of documentary paintings of the war. This watercolor painting measures 13-1/2" X 17-1/2" and with the frame it measures 15-1/2" X 19-1/2". The matting is in good condition the photos have reflection from the glass which makes the matting look dis colored.
There is a few foxing marks and a little faded area on the palm trees on the right. Without taking the glass off it is not possible to see what this really is, I have showed a close up of this area. Google Walter Cole under askART and a painting comes with the bio with the exact same signature as on this painting. A nice find for the Florida art collector. Good luck and thanks for looking.
