(Spain, 19th / 20th Century). Old Masters & 19th Century Art.
Carlos Alonso-Pérez was born into a family of renowned artists in 1881 in Saragossa, Spain. He is best known for aristocratic figure and genre painting that depicted men and woman in flirtatious settings. These works were all the rage in aristocratic and upper society interiors at the turn of the last century. These colonial age scenes were "retro" and considered somewhat "racy" for the late 19th century! Carlos was one of the early beneficiary of art prints. Though nowhere near the level they would become and limited to shades of black and grey, Carlos would reproduce his works, color them by hand and sell them. This way one painting provided more than one payday and is similar to the limited edition numbered prints issued by artists today. This is one of Carlos Alonso-Pérez's hand colored prints and bears his signature on the lower right. This particular work is incredibly rare and we have been unable to obtain record of another ever hitting the art marketplace. Here a dashing young man is flirting with the young ladies in the market and an older woman watches with a jaundiced eye.
Very little age wear to the print and frame. This is an absolutely superb addition to your 19th century art collection or as a decorator touch for your NY penthouse, Malibu beach house or Paris flat!
